After eight years as the Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dr. Krishna Kavi is stepping down at the end of Summer 2009. He will then focus on the new NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for Net-Centric Software and Systems and spend more time on his personal research and teaching. Dr. Kavi is also exploring the possibility of spending a semester at the National Chiao-Tung University in Taiwan to establish stronger collaborations with faculty and industry there.
The CSE Department has made significant progress over the past several years, including growth in degree programs, new and innovative programs, ABET Accreditation for Computer Science and Computer Engineering degrees, substantial increase in our graduate enrollments, and a nearly 10 fold increase in faculty research funding and publications. Dr. Kavi wants to thank colleagues, alumni and students for their support and participation in CSE activities and he hopes they will continue to help the next Chair and the CSE Department.
Dr. Costas Tsatsoulis, Dean of the UNT College of Engineering, has announced that Dr. Ian Parberry will serve as Interim Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering beginning September 1, 2009. Dr. Tsatsoulis added that the search for a permanent Chair will begin immediately and he is certain that the position will be filled by someone who is committed to CSE and UNT.
