CSCE 4010 Engineering Ethics
Fall 2009
Textbook: Engineering Ethics by Charles Fledderman. 3rd Edition
This class will be on WEBCT Blackboard and in the classroom. You will do the
chapters and tests on Blackboard and the presentations in the classroom.
We will discuss the details of the class proceedure during the
first meeting of the class.
Textbook
The textbook has 8 chapters and many case studies. You will read the
chapters and case studies and look at the corresponding material
on WEBCT Blackboard. There will be a quiz over each chapter and some
of the case studies. These quizes are online, too. The quizes will be
worth 25% of your course grade.
Presentation
Each student will do a presentation on a topic related to engineering ethics.
You will have 25 minutes, which should be allocated as 15 minutes
for your presentation and 10 minutes for questions and discussions.
The presentation will be worth 25% of your course grade.
Research Paper
You will write a short (3-5 pages, single spaced) research paper over a topic relating to
engineering ethics. It will be due the Friday of dead week. You may send it to me
via email. It will be worth 25% of your course grade.
There may be an opportunity to substitute a research project for the requirment
of the research paper. I will let you know if that is available.
Attendance
Attendance at the student presentations is mandatory.
This will be worth 25% of your course grade. Points will be
deducted if you are absent or late.
