A team of up-to three people can work together as a team. T0 (10 points) Form a team of up-to three people. Make a home page for the course. List team memeber names and email addresses. Send me the link to your project homepage. DUE: 01/22 before class. A1 Identify a sub-area related to stream processing you would like to focus on. A2 Collect 8 or more papers in that area. Read the abstracts of the paper first to see if it is interesting to the problem your want to explore before you select them. A3 (40 points). List each paper with author names, title, forum, year, link to the paper. Send me the link. Submit a hard copy of the paper list. DUE: 02/03 before class. A4 (40 points) Select 3 or more papers from the papers you identified. Write a short description (100-200 words) for each of the 3 papers and add them to your project website. Submit a hard copy. DUE: 02/17 before class. A5 (40 points) Prepare a few slides to introduce the 3 (or more) papers that you write summaries. Present the slides in class (20 minutes). Please also include a general introduction of the area you focus on with some background information. DUE: 02/24 and 02/26 B1 Identify a paper P on the course reading list that you would like to write a critique and present. B2 (130 points). Add to the site the paper critique (50 points) and slides (50 points) of the paper P. Add to the site two written questions (30 points) and answers for paper P (each about 100-250 words). The written critique should be about 1000 words long and the oral presentation should consist of about 30 transparencies with some addressing the following questions: - Problem statement - List the major contributions of the paper - What are the key concepts behind the approach in this paper - What is the validation methodology - List the assumptions made by the authors B3 (70 points). Make an oral presentation in the class on paper P. B4 (50 points). Lead the group discussion when papers P is presented. - (5 points for everyone team for each paper P) Everyone team else is supposed to prepare two written questions and answers for each paper. Please send your questions and answers 24 hours before class to allow the presenter post them online. Also submit a hard copy to me before class. - (10 points) The leader of the paper dicussion is responsible for collecting all the questions a day before the presentation and post them on the project website. - (40 points) Lead an in-depth discussion of the papers P together with the class. Note: all homework will be graded and the late policies will be enforced. The paper selection will be evaluated on its coverage and quality, the questions will be evaluated on its understanding of the paper and the depth of the questions. Critiques will be evaluated on the value of the criticisms and the understanding of the paper. Presentation will be evaluated on the polish of the slides, if it is easy for audience to understand, communication with the audience etc.
