The SouthCentral Regionals for the ACM-sponsored International Programming Competition are just around the corner! We would like to field at least 3 teams again (maybe more if there is interest). Each team consists of 3 people - typically undergrad but can be first year grad students as well under certain eligibility conditions. The contest is distributed across multiple sites. This year they are ECU in Okla, Texas A&M, Abilene Christian and LSU. We need to register our teams before 10/1607. The local Student ACM Chapter will hold tryouts with a practice problem set this coming weekend. IF you cannot make the tryout this weekend then other arrangements may be possible.
For more info contact Dr Garlick at garlic@cse.unt.edu or John Rizzo at eleusive@gmail.com
September 11:
Please point your students towards the main page of the CSE web site to find announcements of upcoming organization meetings etc. For example, the Robotics society is meeting this week and the IEEE Computer society is meeting next week. New announcements will be posted all semester. Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

Their passwords are randomly generated, so they will need to visit our password reset page before they can login the first time:
If they need information on how to get logged in, etc. please refer them to our eSupport site:

The various components of your grade are weighted as follows:
| Minor Assignments | 20% |
| Major Assignments | 30% | Midterm | 20% |
| Final | 30% |
Some explanation is likely required. Since I cannot post your grades with any part of your student ID (or SSN) numbers for identification, I will be posting them based upon a magic number that I will assign each of you.
As stated in class I insist upon collaboration among students (and even faculty?) in class and labs, as it is my belief that it provides a better learning environment.
On both Minor and Major assignments however, do your own work. I know that leaves a lot to interpretation, but we'll be discussing acceptable cooperation in class. In the final analysis though, it DOES come down to "do your own work."
And of course you need to do your own work on exams as well. Here there should be no ambiguity at all.
In case the above description, and in-class discussion of my views on appropriate and inappropriate collaboration does not answer all of your questions, please look at the university Student Rights and Responsibilities page.
